Say Hello to Taylor Crecca!

Taylor is part of the Roger Williams University Dance Club and applied for a grant called “All lights turned off can be turned on”. Together, the club created an amazing dance video set to Noah Kahan’s “Call Your Mom,” a piece choreographed by club president Taylor Quinn. The song and choreography symbolize the importance of friends uplifting and supporting one another through tough times.

Before filming, the group engaged in a discussion about the significance of mental health and the value of having a healthy outlet. For the club members, that outlet is dance. The experience was deeply impactful, emphasizing the therapeutic power of creativity and connection.

The project was a collaborative effort involving dance, videography, lighting and a relaxing lunch after all of the hard work, all coming together to highlight mental health awareness and suicide prevention. “The team is grateful to the My Friend Abby organization for this unforgettable opportunity to make a difference through art and community; it really made us all closer, and continues to be influential as we share our video with so many on campus and beyond” said Taylor.

Here’s a few testimonials from Taylor’s teammates as well!

“Dancing has always been my outlet and a mental reset for me. Anytime I start feeling anything out of the ordinary, all I have to do is start dancing—alone or with friends—and suddenly I feel like myself again. Working on this project was such a great way to connect with other dancers about mental health. Taking something we all love and giving it a purpose that resonates within the greater community shows how great of an impact it can have on people everywhere.” - Leah Waterman

“Dance has consistently created a mental escape for me. It allows me to think solely about my movement and where I am in the moment rather than focusing on what’s going on outside. Dance helps me practice mindfulness, and I valued the opportunity to share those ideas with others through this project.” - Nina Bodnar

Thank you to the Roger Williams University Dance Club for their compelling creativity to highlighting mental health and wellness!
