Rachel: Sunshine News

Sixteen year-old Rachel Bikofsky used her video skills to educate viewers on some positive ways of coping with negative emotions, especially those arising from the pandemic.

In a series of three short “Sunshine News” videos, she interviewed several students and asked each what they did to keep busy and to reduce their feelings of isolation during Covid. Their answers were not only creative, they reflected the resilience of many young people in the community.

“One of my friends started a lawn-mowing business so he could see friends [outside] and make some money at the same time. He also joined a Trumbull committee that works towards mental health awareness,” Rachel recalled. “Another started a book club and blog.”

Rachel also shared some time-tested tips on coping with stress. “Beginning a journal, listening to music, or going outside and doing something you love are all helpful,” she said. Now a senior at Trumbull High School, Rachel hopes to post the videos to YouTube and promote them through social media. The hope is that those who watch will feel motivated to practice self-care.
